Update #1

Ok, well just about 2 months has gone by and I havn't shared anything about my experiance, efforts, goals, successes and failures.  There have been a few people that have asked me about these things and when I was going to share and I thank you for the support.

I will keep it short as I need only to get moving more and do it.  I did well through 2 weeks in August following a exercise video, the 21 day fix.  The girls even did it with me the first week and it was pretty fun...extremly hard and even a bit sad but fun.  I had Hazly tell me "Dad, don't try to keep up with the girls in the video just do the easy one." And after Emma told me to stop making funny noises as I did crunches, Raegan, over and grabbed my hair and tried to help pull me up saying "up, up".

The videos are nice because they are only 30 min but I developed plantar fascitis that has been so painful I couldn't finish it.  I continued to eat better but to no specific diet plan.  Over those 3 weeks I lost 16 lbs and have kept it off thus far.

In September I have not done any formal exercising besides working on my plantar fascitis.  I lost another 4 lbs but gained it back by the end of the month.

I have learned that I need the support of others to help me through the hard times so I will be posting about what I do on this blog hopefuly daily or a few times a week.

I am also going to start swimming and biking as I have heard those don't make the fascitis worse.  I am going to plan out my weekly exercises and meals.  I will keep track of those on the Lose it! app.

So there we go.  I got up, I fell down, and I am getting up again.

  1. Thanks for sharing, West. I wish you all the best! No matter what, you are awesome. If you haven't seen the documentary Forks Over Knives I highly recommend it. They also have lots of great info at forksoverknives.com including personal stories that I find inspiring and motivational. Good luck and God bless!

  2. Best of luck West! The important thing is when you fall you get back up. Eventually you will stop falling and begin moving forward at a very fast pace. I am excited for you and your family to see the end result! Keep going West, it will be worth it in the long run!

  3. Way to go, West! I had plantar facitis for a while. Went to physical therapy and changed the shoes I wear. Physical therapy just taught me that good calf stretches are SOO important. I also found out that I had a low arch (thought my whole life that I had a high arch) and needed to change my shoes. Have you noticed those ugly toe shoes I wear mostly everywhere? They saved me! I decided to go minimalist with the shoes and chose Vibram 5 fingers. For exercising, or when I need to wear heavier shoes, I chose Altras, because they have a zero strike. They are padded inside, but don't have any support in weird places, allowing my foot to form how it was naturally meant to while walking. Good luck to you! PF is NOT fun! Swimming definitely helps to get the exercise in without pain.

  6. This is neat. Cool updates! I wanted to tell you that I developed plantar fascitis after standing on concrete for 2 days straight... it took a year to go away, then came back again for the same reason. This time, it went away immediately after I started eating low-carb. I really think it's directly related. If you're interested in looking into it, it's call the "keto" diet, and you follow the "OKL chart". :)

  7. I'm happy for you! Sixteen pounds is an accomplishment! And I feel your fasciitis pain! I've had days when I literally had to crawl to the bathroom in the morning because I couldn't put any weight on my feet. I have found that losing weight will help tremendously. I haven't had a flare up in over a year. So keep up the good work! (Karen)
